RCDA Summer Program 2011
The Richwood Community Development Agency (RCDA) recently completed its 2011 Mid-Summer Enrichment Program from July 5-28 at the RCDA Building on Brown Road in the town of Richwood. The program was free to children between 6 and 14 years of age. As part of their enrichment activities the participants: Discussed general etiquette and participated in a family style dinner using proper table manners; learned money management skills including the benefits of saving to purchase desired items; took piano lessons; completed arts & crafts projects; cooked snacks; learned and played games; planted and tended a garden; used cucumbers from the garden to make and process pickles; completed science, math, and social studies projects; and, learned basic French, Spanish, and Sign Language. At the conclusion of the program, some students who had earned monetary rewards used their funds to start college savings accounts. The program was supported, in part, through a Sams Club/Wal Mart Foundation Grant.
